Jamie Chung is a versatile American actress and former reality television personality. Jamie Chung was cast as a member of the 2004 MTV reality series “The Real World: San Diego.” Subsequently through her appearances on its spin-off show, “Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno II.”
Early Life
Jamie Chung was born in San Francisco, California, the United States, on April 10, 1983. Her full name is Jamie Jilynn Chung and holds American nationality.

She was born to her father Tony Chung while her mother’s name has not been made public. She was raised with her older sister Jean. The two sisters were brought up in Korean tradition in San Francisco’s Ingleside neighbourhood and were required to speak only in Korean at home.
Meanwhile, her parents are first-generation Korean immigrants. They moved to the United States in 1980 and opened a burger joint called Tony’s in the predominantly Italian neighbourhood of North Beach.

Chung studied at Commodore Sloat Elementary School before moving to Aptos Middle School, graduating from there in 1997. In the year 2001, she completed her graduation from Lowell High School.
As a child, she experienced an identity problem, was bullied at school, and struggled to fit into American culture. Simultaneously, she fought hard to speak well in Korean, attending Korean lessons throughout her academic life.
In 2001, she joined the University of California, Riverside. There, she became a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, paying her way by working two jobs, including one as a server in a small bar. She graduated from there in 2005 with a B.A. in economics.
Professional Career
When Jamie Chung was still working the bar as a waitress, she got her breakthrough when MTV held a casting call for “The Real World” in 2003. Due to the encouragement of the casting director, she participated in the audition and was selected for its San Diego-based fourteenth season, working in it from January 6 to June 29, 2004.
She was then cast on the show spin-off game show, Real World/Road Rules Challenge, as a cast member in that show’s 2005 season, “The Inferno II.” The show aired from March 7 to June 20. While her team won the challenge, it had a severe impact on her career.
She relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Initially, she started her acting career with various minor roles in television and films, including as Cordy Han in ten episodes of “Days of Our Lives,” as a Hooters girl in the 2007 comedy “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry,” and in episodes of “CSI: NY” and “Veronica Mars.”
Breakthrough
She got her first major onscreen role as Heavan Kogo, the series lead in the ABC Family television miniseries “Samurai Girl” in 2008. Then, she was cast in the 2009 award-winning television film called “Princess Protection Program,” in which she appeared as Chelsea Barnes.

The actress appeared in three films; starring as Chi Chi in “DragonBall Evolution,” as Clarie Wen in “Sorority Row,” and as Ginny Bai in “Burning Palms” in the year 2009. In 2010, she appeared in the comedy film “Grown Ups” in which she played the role of Amber Hilliard.
She got cast in two films named “The Hangover Part II” and “Sucker Punch” in the year 2011. Her other major role came as Nima in the 2012 action thriller film “Premium Rush.” That same year, she appeared in movies such as “The Man with the Iron Fists,” “Eden,” and “Knite Fight.”
She played the role of Mulan in a total of 12 episodes of the fantasy adventure drama TV series “Once Upon a Time.” In 2014, she played Janice Channing in 13 episodes of “Believe.” She was as successful on the big screen, releasing five films that year named “Flight 7500,” “Bad Johnson,” “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,” “Rudderless,” and Big Hero 6″ (voice-role).
Continued her successful acting journey
She portrayed series regular Olivia in seven episodes of “Resident Advisors” in 2015. That same year, she was cast in two films “Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong” and “A Year and Change.” In 2016, she featured in six Gotham episodes and was cast in two films “Flock of Dudes” and “Office Christmas Party.” In the same year, she was cast as attorney Lana Harris in “Miranda’s Rights,” which was not televised by NBC for some reason.
She provided her voice to the animated character Go Go Tomago in the animated television series, “Big Hero 6: The Series.” Sh appeared in a total of 45 episodes from November 2017 to February 2021. Similarly, she played the recurring role of Clarice Fong/Blink in a total of 29 episodes in the TV series “The Gifted.”
Recent works
In 2019, she voiced Rose Trefgarne in the computer-animated science fiction streaming television series “Sherwood.” She continues to appear on the big screen in films such as “Band Aid” (2017), “1985” (2018), “DC Showcase” (2019), “Dangerous Lies” (2020), and “The Misfits” (2021).
Later, in 2020, she played a seemingly naïve Korean nursing student, Ji-Ah, in the HBO horror drama series, “Lovecraft Country.” She played the recurring role of Molly Park in the crime drama series “Dexter: New Blood.” In the series, she appeared in a total of seven episodes. Chung and her Sorority Row co-stars won the 2009 ShoWest industry trade show’s Female Stars of Tomorrow Award on April 2, 2009. At the 2012 Seattle International Film Festival, she received the Golden Space Needle Award for Best Actress for Eden.
