Joe DeRosa started his comedy career as part of a comedic musical duo, “Deep” in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. After the duo split, he began performing stand-up comedy at the Laff House in Philadelphia. And, later moved to New York City.
In the year 2006, he went on to co-host the Uninformed radio show along with Bill Burr on Sirius Satellite Radio. Eventually, they were able to transition to a podcast format before ending in the year 2009.
He even had a half-hour Comedy Central Presents special in that same year. And released albums such as “The Depression Auction” and “Return of the Son of Depression Auction”. He co-wrote, co-produced, and co-starred in a short film, “Cheat” as well.
Likewise, DeRosa along with Kurt Metzger went on to team up for a web series, “Overrated” in August 2012. Here, they discussed pop culture subjects.
He even wrote, directed, as well as starred in a web series, “What Are We Waiting For?” on The Warner Sound website. He was able to play an enthusiastic music fan in the series. Another web series, “We Should Break Up” was also the one where DeRosa was able to star which was based on their real-life experiences.
His third album, “You Will Die”, was released in the year 2013. He then moved to Los Angeles so that he could work as a writer on “The Pete Holmes Show”.

DeRosa released his fourth album, “Mistakes Were Made: The B Sides,” in the year 2014. He then went on to join the writing team for the Netflix series “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” and was able to work on the Bonnie McFarlane film “Women Aren’t Funny”. In the year 2015, he went on to make his first appearance as Dr. Caldera on “Better Call Saul” and even perform at Madison Square Garden as an opening act for Bill Burr.
He even taped his first one-hour special for Comedy Central in the year 2016 and released his fifth album shortly after. He also wrote an episode of “Jeff & Some Aliens” and served as a writer and consultant on “Crashing”.
DeRosa was able to appear on the debut episode of “Living Biblically” and executive produced and starred in the horror anthology series “By Night: Origins”.
In May 2019, Comedy Central released this cool short, “You Let Me Down” written by and starring Joe DeRosa. The short was based on his column in Penthouse magazine. Then, in late 2019, he was able to make his way back to New York City and start performing at comedy clubs full-time again.
Along the way, in November 2020, he was able to team up with The Stand Comedy Club to create a sandwich shop, “Joey Roses”. It started as a pop-up within the club, but on November 21, 2021, they were able to open their own location on Rivington Street.
Podcasting
Jo DeRosa went on to co-host a podcast, “You Know What Dude?” along with comedian Robert Kelly from July 2011 to March 2012. Then, in February 2014, he started his own podcast, “Down With Joe DeRosa”.
His podcast later went on to become part of the All Things Comedy podcast network. However, he eventually got tired of it and ended the podcast in June 2015. But again on July 10, 2015, he teamed up with writer Patrick Walsh to co-host “We’ll See You In Hell,”. It is a podcast all about horror films.
Moreover, he has been involved in quite a few podcasts. And, in addition to his other shows, he also was able to co-host “Emotional Hangs” along with Kurt Braunohler.
Here, they explored adult male friendships in a humorous way. Unfortunately, the podcast has been on hiatus since December 2017, partly due to network changes. But this didn’t stop him and he teamed up with Bill Burr for the “Uninformed” podcast, releasing episodes exclusively for Patreon subscribers. However, the podcast hasn’t released any new episodes since August 2019.
Musical Projects
Joe DeRosa was able to form a comedic sex rap group, “Deep” along with his childhood friend James Pinkstone. And, after releasing their debut album, ‘The Game Plan’, they decided to disband because people were taking their extreme misogyny too seriously, not realizing it was a parody.
Later on, he along with his friend Paul Chell were able to release an album as Salsa Windfall, “Twointheoneinthe” in the year 2007. In the year 2009, DeRosa and James reunited as an electropop act, “Funeral In The Mirror”. They went on to release an album, ‘Old Wolf Thoughts’.
Furthermore, he even collaborated with other comedians for a comedy rap video, “Grab Dat Dolla” in the year 2012. He has composed and recorded theme songs for his podcasts as well.
