They soon found themselves writing and starring on the television sketch-comedy series Alfresco (1983–1984), alongside Robbie Coltrane, Ben Elton, and fellow Footlights performer Emma Thompson.
Laurie’s involvement in Rowan Atkinson’s Blackadder II and other Blackadder sequels (starting in 1986) resulted from that. In addition, he composed the music for and appeared in 26 A Bit of Fry and Laurie episodes.
Laurie joined the American television drama House at the start of the twenty-first century, playing the smart but haughty and conceited Dr. Gregory House.
