Initially, Thaao Penghlis started performing on the stage, performing in Jockeys under Milton Katselas’s direction. In 1981, the audience for the daytime soap opera “General Hospital” during the Ice Princess saga when he played the role of Victor Cassadine, brother of Mikkos and Anthony Cassadine.
From 30 January 2014 to 4 March 2014, he returned to daytime in his one-time role as Victor Cassadine on “General Hospital,” though he made subsequent appearances in the same year. He returned for one episode on 1 May 2014, then again from 7-12 August, and again from 3 September until the character was killed on 16 September 2014.

He starred as the villainous Count Tony DiMera, the son of villain Stefano DiMera in the NBC daytime drama “Days of Our Lives.” In 2005, he departed from the show. However, he came back to the show on the 24th of May 2007, playing the role of a different character.
He appeared in the 1980s revival of Mission: Impossible, which was shot in his home country of Australia. In the revival, he played actor, makeup artist, and voice impersonator Nicholas Black, a counterpart to Martin Landau’s Rollin Hand and Leonard Nimoy’s The Great Paris.
Penghlis returned to stage acting in 2010, appearing at New Jersey’s Cape May Stage. He co-starred with Heather Matarazzo in Charles Evered’s play Class. He was also cast in the 2013 film The Book of Esther.
