Early Life
Channing Dungey was born in Sacramento, California, the United States, on the 14th of March 1969. Her birth name is Channing Nicole Dungey and holds American citizenship. She assisted in the development and supervision of a number of commercially successful films, including The Bridges of Madison County (1995), Heat (1995), The Matrix (1999), and The Devil’s Advocate (1997). Dungey joined ABC Studios as head of drama in the summer of 2004. On February 17, 2016, she was appointed president of ABC Entertainment, replacing Paul Lee.
The first black American president of a major broadcast television network
With this appointment, she became the first Black executive to lead the entertainment division of a major network. Moreover, she oversaw the creation of ABC Studios’ Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Nashville, Quantico, Army Wives, and Once Upon a Time.
Further, she was president of the division on May 29, 2018, when Roseanne was cancelled for the second time. Dungey previously defended Roseanne over racially charged jokes on the show. Moreover, she was the president of ABC Entertainment when a Black-ish episode was pulled from the schedule.
Moreover, she stated that ABC executives disagreed with the episode’s creative direction, which discussed NFL players kneeling during the American national anthem to protest police brutality and show support for Black human rights.

In addition, she was announced as Netflix’s new vice president of original content on December 17, 2018. At Netflix, she collaborated with fellow ABC alums Shonda Rhimes and Kenya Barris. She left Netflix in October 2020.
Additionally, Dungey was named chairwoman of Warner Bros. Television Group on October 19, 2020, succeeding Peter Roth and reporting to Ann Sarnoff. She is now one of the few Black executives in a Hollywood television studio.
The Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League announced Dungey and her husband Scott Power had joined the team’s ownership group on May 4, 2021.
