In the early stage of Dhani’s career, he assisted his father in home recording sessions. Later on, he eventually became part of the Brainwashed album project. He gained experience in performing and production techniques, in this process. After his father’s death in 2001, he took the responsibility to complete his father’s last album. Thus he collaborated with Jeff Lynne, for the album Brainwashed.

The album was released in 2002 and went on to win a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, in “Marwa Blues”. Whereas, it was at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards in 2004. On the 1st anniversary of his father’s death, he participated in the Concert for George. Additionally, the concert was organized by Eric Clapton and featured some of his father’s friends and collaborators. It also included former Beatles bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Clapton, and Billy Preston.
The other friends were Ravi Shankar, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Jim Keltner, and Joe Brown. For most of the concert, he played backup acoustic guitar. Paul McCartney passed on to the audience, “Olivia said that with Dhani up on stage, it looks like George stayed young and we all got old”.
Thus, he tried to reference the physical similarities between father and son. Moreover, he appeared onstage with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, Prince, and others, in 2004. They together came for a performance of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps. It was during his father’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
