Career and Professional Life

Stu Billett, after graduating from the university, was able to land a position as a producer’s assistant on several shows. He went on to serve as the associate producer of “Who Do You Trust?” as well. Later on, he was able to create as well as produce the game show “One in a Million” for Merv Griffin Productions.

Likewise, Stu along with his producing partner Ralph Edwards launched “The People’s Court”, starring Judge Joseph Wapner in the year 1981. He is the mastermind who was able to create and birth the whole genre of courtroom TV shows. And, the program was successful in becoming the first arbitration-based reality court show and the first long-running hit in the space.

He became a veteran TV producer as well as the creator of the mentioned venerable TV show. The original series was able to run from the year 1981 to 1993. Later in the year 1997, the show returned and is still in production today. Billett on the other hand was able to serve as an executive producer, earning four Daytime Emmy awards for his work on the show.

The show was able to spawn countless satirical takes over the years on ‘SNL’. And, the most recent one was where Kim Kardashian played her older sister in “The People’s Kourt”. Due to all this, Stu Billett is remembered by his ‘TPC’ family as “a kind and remarkable man who made a great impact on the lives of so many people, and he will be missed tremendously”.

Moreover, he also developed and executive produced other TV programs such as Love Stories, Superior Court, Moral Court, Family Medical Center, So You Think You Got Troubles, and the comedy/dating show Biz!

Stu Billett did tie the knot with his wife but his wife’s name is unknown until now. However, we do know that the couple was together for more than 40 years until Billett passed away.
