Early Life
On the 26th of February 1957, Shaktikanta Das was born in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. He holds an Indian nationality and practices Hinduism religion. Currently, he is 67 years old and has a birth sign of Pisces Similarly, he belongs to the Brahmin caste.

In December 2018, Das was appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, succeeding Urjit Patel. As the head of the central bank, he is responsible for overseeing monetary policy, regulating and supervising the financial sector, managing foreign exchange reserves, and maintaining the stability of the Indian rupee.
During his tenure as RBI Governor, he has been involved in implementing various measures to support the Indian economy and manage the challenges posed by events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, he has emphasized the importance of maintaining price stability, ensuring financial sector stability, and fostering growth through targeted measures.
Das is known for his expertise in fiscal and monetary policies and has played a significant role in shaping India’s economic landscape. His leadership at the RBI has been characterized by a pragmatic and consultative approach, aiming to balance the needs of economic growth with maintaining financial stability.
Prior to his role as RBI Governor, Das held positions such as India’s representative at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs and Secretary of the Department of Revenue in the Ministry of Finance.
