On the 12 of August 2021, Goins’s grandparents, Jonathan and Mary Sandoval reported to the Alamosa Police Department (APD) that their granddaughter Goins has not been seen in a long period with no contact. Moreover, Goins’s grandparents were the primary caretakers of Goins’ toddler son. Meanwhile, she was last seen by her family on Saturday, August 7, 2021. She was last seen at a family celebration for her son’s birthday.
APD was informed by Goins’ younger sister, Alanna, that she had received a text message from Cheyenne at 11:00 p.m. on August 7 stating that Cheyenne was getting a ride to the Bank Shot, prompting the immediate launch of an investigation.
Interrogation with Elias Salas
Then, APD discovered that Goins had been at the “Bank Shot” at one in the morning on August 8 with Sasha Chacon and Lucas Salas. It was later discovered that Cheyenne Goins, Sasha Chacon, and Lucas Salas allegedly left the Bank Shot together in a car driven by a friend of Cheyenne’s who then took them to the Loaf ‘n Jug, which is located at Highway 17 and Highway 160.
Sasha Chacon, who cooperated with APD, had allegedly told people that Goins left the bar with three males and that she had not seen her again. The four waited for Elias Salas, Lucas Salas’ niece, to arrive at the location. The friend stated in a meeting with law enforcement officers that Cheyenne, Sasha, and Lucas entered Elisa Salas’ car after she arrived. At that point, he claimed to have left and had not seen Cheyenne Goins since.
Sasha Chacon underwent two interviews, the first by APD the day Cheyenne was reported missing and the second by ACSO the day before law enforcement officials were granted permission to dig up the grave where they believed Cheyenne was buried.
Lucas Salas got a shootout by the Police
After Lucas Salas was killed in a shootout with Northglenn Police, Elisa Salas, Lucas’ niece, was detained at the scene and questioned by law enforcement. Sasha and Elisa both told law enforcement that Sasha, Elisa, and Lucas had driven with Cheyenne Goins to a location close to the “wetlands” of Mount Blanca in the early morning hours of August 8 where Lucas had allegedly murdered Cheyenne. This was despite the fact that both defendants’ accounts differ on a number of crucial points.
The location where Cheyenne was ultimately found was where the body of Cheyenne was later moved. Both women denied involvement in the killing, only stating to have helped move Cheyenne’s body in various ways.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Alamosa Police Department, the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, and several other supporting agencies were among the law enforcement organizations that took part in the investigation.
Aftermath
In this case, Sasha Chacon, and Elisa Salas, are accused of four criminal offenses, including first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, tampering with a dead body, and tampering with physical proof.
Lucas Antonio Salas, a third person who lived in Alamosa and was thought to be connected to the crime, was killed in a police shooting in Northglenn on August 18, 2021, avoiding an arrest warrant from being issued.
