By his junior year, the player had established himself as his team’s primary point guard. Eric finished the season with 15.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. He was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten for the first time. Shortly after the season, he announced for the 2021 NBA Draft, despite having college eligibility for the following season.
Professional Career
Having a successful playing career during his college year, Eric Ayala in September 2022, signed with Keflavík of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild Karla after originally having signed with Sopron during the summer. Ayala also had the opportunity to represent his country in an international event, the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship. He averaged 19.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in the events but could not lead his team to a medal.
