In 2014, he became the Minister of State for Universities, Science, and Cities, before being promoted to Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in 2015.
In 2016, he was appointed Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy, a position he held until 2019. During his tenure, he oversaw the development of the UK’s industrial strategy, which aimed to boost productivity and economic growth. He served as Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities from 7 July 2022 to 6 September 2022.
In addition to his political career, Clark has also been involved in academic and think tank work, serving as the director of the International Energy Policy Institute at the University of Dundee and as chairman of the Cities and Local Growth Unit at the think tank Policy Exchange.
