Don Everly was a popular American musician. Don Everly was mostly popular for being one of the members of the duo “The Everly Brothers” along with his younger brother, Phill.

Early Life and Childhood

Don Everly was born Isaac Donald Everly on February 1, 1937, in Brownie, Kentucky, U.S. His age was 84 years old at the time of his death. He was born to his father Isaac Milford “Ike” Everly, Jr., and his mother Margaret Embry Everly.

Likewise, his father was a popular guitarist at his time. He held American nationality and was born under the sun sign Aquarius. Similarly, Don followed Christianity and was of mixed ethnic background. He had a sibling named Phil Everly.

In 1953, the Everly family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, and the brothers enrolled at West High School. In 1955, the brothers relocated to Nashville, and the family moved to Madison, Tennessee.

As for his academic qualification, Don Everly was a high-school graduate student. Don attended Longfellow Elementary School. He graduated in 1955 from West High School.

Death

Don Everly passed away in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 21, 2021, at the age of 84, for an unspecified reason. In 2014, his brother Phil passed away. The founder of the Everly family, Margaret Embry Everly, passed away in December of that year at the age of 102.

Everly was a popular musician and had given a number of songs of the rock genre. He is always remembered for his great performance in the music industry.

The Everly Brothers’ professional life began in 1951. Their debut single, Bye Bye Love, got turned down by thirty other acts. Behind Elvis Presley’s “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear,” Bye Bye Love reached No. 2 on the pop charts, No. 1 on the country charts, and No. 5 on the R&B charts. The Felice and Boudleaux Bryant-penned song became the Everly Brothers’ first single to sell one million copies.

In addition to their other notable successes, the Everly Brothers are best known for Cathy’s Clown and All I Have To Do Is Dream. Phil and Don pursued solo careers from 1973 until 1983 after the band broke up due to disputes between the two brothers.

On September 23, 1983, the brothers finally got back together at the Royal Albert Hall in London, ending their ten-year separation. Terry Slater, Phil and Don, and Wingfield served as the event’s organizers and musical director.

In the middle of January 1984, this concert was captured for a live LP and video broadcast on cable television. For the first time in more than ten years, the brothers entered the recording studio together to create the album EB ’84, which was overseen by Dave Edmunds.

In 1986, the Everly Brothers were admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were the first non-solo act and pair to be recognized. On the Hollywood Walk of Fame, they were given a star the same year. The Everly Brothers’ star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame “Born Yesterday” from 1986 was their last single to reach the charts. Cliff Richard and Phil shared vocals on a live BBC recording of “All I Have to Do Is Dream” from 1981, which reached number 20 in the UK in 1994.

The Everly Brothers were a significant influence on the Beatles, according to Paul McCartney:

“They had a significant influence on the Beatles. I used to be Phil and John used to be Don when we first started writing songs together.”

Solo Work

In the middle to late 1970s, Don had some success in Nashville with his band, the Dead Cowboys, and performed with Albert Lee. In the middle of 1976, Don also gave a solo performance at a yearly country music event in London.

Despite the fact that the performance was uneven, his arrival was favorably received and he earned “thunderous applause.” On his 1979 album Blue Kentucky Girl, Emmylou Harris and Don collaborated on the song “Everytime You Leave.”

On October 25, 2014, Everly watched as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honored the Everly Brothers at the Annual Music Masters. Don played the Everlys’ timeless hit “Bye Bye Love” on stage at the State Theater.

Don retired from the stage in 2018. As a special guest on Paul Simon’s 2018 farewell tour in Nashville, he gave his last performance. Don and Simon sang “Bye Bye Love,” with Simon singing the original tenor harmony by Phil Everly.

His sexual orientation was straight. As for his relationship status, he was a married man. He had married three times throughout his life. His first wife was Mary Sue Ingraham whom he married in the year 1957. But they couldn’t continue their marriage and got separated in 1961. Likewise, he had tied the knot with  Venetia Stevenson for the second time in the year 1962. Same as the first marriage, they couldn’t stay together for long. So, they decided to divorce in 1970.

He was the father of four kids named Erin Everly, Edan Everly, Stacy Everly, and Venetia Everly. Likewise, he had also grandchildren were named  Eres Portman, Esper Portman, Easan Portman
