Malcolm McDowell is a well-known actor, producer, and television presenter from England. Malcolm McDowell is best known for portraying Alex DeLarge in the 1971 film “A Clockwork Orange.”

Malcolm McDowell was born on the 13th of June 1943, in Horsforth, Yorkshire, England. He holds British nationality and is 79 years old as of 2024. In addition, he has a birth sign of Gemini and has his belief in Spiritualism. His birth name is Malcolm John Taylor and belongs to a mixed ethnicity of English-Scottish-Irish descent.
He was born to his father, Charles Taylor, and his mother, Edna McDowell. Professionally, his father was a publican while his mother worked as a hotelier. Meanwhile, he grew up alongside his two sisters Gloria and Judy. He moved to Bridlington after his father was stationed there.

Talking about his academic career, Malcolm McDowell was sent to the Tunbridge Boarding School at the age of 11 years old. Later, McDowell attended the Cannock House School in Eltham, Kent.
During his school day, he realized his passion for acting. In addition, he went to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) to study acting professionally. In 1964, Malcolm McDowell first appeared in a guest role in “Crossroads.” Later, he did a recurring role as Frankie in “Sat’day While Sunday” (1967) and as Ernie in “The Newcomers” (1967).
Films Breakthroughs
Meanwhile, he made his film debut in Lindsay Anderson’s 1968 movie “If…” where he played the role of Mick Travis. In the year 1971, he appeared in films such as “Figures in a Landscape”, “The Raging Moon”, and “A Clockwork Orange.”

In the 1973 comedy-drama fantasy film “O Lucky Man!” he played the role of Mick Travis and reprised the same role in the 1982 black comedy film “Britannia Hospital.”
McDowell performed on stage in plays including “The Collection” during the 1970s. Later, he played the role of Gresham in the 1976 film “Aces High.” That same year, he appeared as Max Gunter in the drama film “Voyage of the Damned.”
He appeared in television films; “She Fell Among Thieves” (1978) as Richard Chandos and “Look Back in Anger” (1980) as Jimmy Porter. He made his Hollywood debut as H.G. Wells in the 1979 movie “Time After Time.”
For his work in the movie, he was nominated for Saturn Award for Best Actor. The same year, he plays Emperor Caligula in the controversial film “Caligula”.
Further acting career
In 1983, he starred as F.E. Cochrane in the action flick “Blue Thunder.” He played the role of Reggie Wanker in the musical comedy movie “Get Crazy” that same year. The next year, he narrated a documentary named “The Compleat Beatles.”
He also appeared in television films such as “Arthur the King” and “Gulag” in the year 1985. A year later, he plays Christopher Quinn in the television film “Monte Carlo.” Meanwhile, he was cast in the movies “The Caller” (1987), “Buy & Cell” (1988), “Sunset” (1988), and “Mortacci” (1989).
In 1992, he appeared as Hubert Bailey in the movie “Chain of Desire.” After two years, he portrayed the role of mad scientist Dr. Tolian Soran in “Star Trek Generations.”
Similarly, he appeared in the television movie “The Man Who Wouldn’t Die” (1994). Afterward, he was cast in the science fiction/action comedy film “Tank Girl” (1995). He later joined the cast of the television series “Wing Commander Academy” as Commodore Geoffrey Tolwyn in the year 1996.

In the 1990s, he also provided his voice in several animated series such as “Captain Planet and the Planeteers” (1993-1995), “Aladdin” (1994), “Batman: The Animated Series” (1995), “Spider-Man” (1996), “Superman: The Animated Series” (1996-1999) and “Adventures from the Book of Virtues” (1997).

He played the recurring role of Linderman in the first season of the science fiction series “Heroes” (2007-2008). Later, he played the recurring role of Terrence McQuewick in the final two seasons of the comedy-drama series “Entourage” (2009-2010).
Moreover, he appeared in the guest role of Ambassador Fanshaw in an episode of the comedy-drama series “Psych” (2010).
McDowell played the guest role of Brett Stiles in an episode of the crime drama series “The Mentalist” (2010). He appeared as Professor Cornwallis in an episode of the comedy series “Community” (2011).
Meanwhile, he played the recurring role of Thomas Pembridge in the comedy-drama series set in the world of classical music “Mozart in the Jungle” (2014-2018). “Chicago Med” (2018), “Truth Seekers” (2020), “Gossip Girl”(2021-2023), and “Son of a Critch” (2022-present) are some of his television appearances.
