From his childhood days, Fab Morvan had an interest in dancing and modeling. To fulfill his desire, he went to Germany when he was just 18 years old along with his mother. There he was a dancer and model and was influenced by funk, soul, hip-hop, and pop. During that time, he met Rob Pilatus in a nightclub in Munich, and they decided to form a rock/soul group in the year 1988.
The duo’s talent and dedication were noticed by record producer Frank Farian, who offered them a recording contract and so founded the Milli Vanilli pop duo, the unusual name inspired by a local advertising slogan that he saw during his business trip in Turkey.
They released their first album called “All or Noting” in the November of 1988. The album soon ranked Gold, peaking at No. 4 on pop music charts in Germany. After the success of their first album, the band released their second studio album “Girl You Know It’s True” which hit the charts in 1989 featuring the eponymous hit single as well as three more popular tracks, “Baby Don’t Forget My Number”, “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You” and “Blame It on the Rain.”
This album reached the No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the States. It was certified six-time platinum and also won the Grammy Award.
Fame to Success
Despite having a successful career, after Los Angeles Times journalist Chuck Philips discovered that not even a single song was sung by either Fab or Rob, the Grammy was rescinded from them four days later. Due to this, the duo moved to Los Angeles, California, and rebranded as “Rob & Fab.” In 1993, they released an eponymous studio album which despite being warmly received by the critics, was a total commercial failure due to only 2,000 copies sold.
Fab continued his work in the music industry as a session musician as well as a DJ throughout the rest of the 1990s. He has given performances at the Wango Tango music festival in 1999, and in 2002 he performed at the Hard Rock Café Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
Solo Career
Fab started his solo career in 2003 and released his debut solo album named “Love Revolution.” The album includes 12 songs that were entirely written, performed, produced, and arranged entirely by himself. He released a new single “Anytime” on the 14th of April 2011, to digital outlets. With a new band, Fabulous Addiction, he released a single “See the Light” on the 25th of May 2012.
As well as he appeared in the 2016 documentary-style KFC commercial that focuses on his life and music career after Milli Vanilli. He has also worked with many DJs/producers including Don Diablo, Guy J, Dance Spirit, Desert Minds, DJ Prinz, Patrick BP Bruyndonx, and collaborations. He has served as DJ for private Heineken functions at the Heineken Experience Center in Amsterdam.
Fab appeared in an ad/trailer for the Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell-led Christmas Comedy “Spirited” on the year of 1st November 2022.
Acting
Besides singing, he has made appearances in movies and television as an actor. He appeared in one episode of “Das erbe der Guldenburgs” TV series in 1990, as well as a small, side role in the 1999 movie “When.”
Simon Verhoeven directed and wrote the Milli-Vanilli biopic Girl You Know It’s True, which was shot in Munich, Berlin, Cape Town, and Los Angeles between 2021 and 2022. Wiedemann & Berg Film produced the film, and Leonine is the theatrical distributor. It will be released in theaters in 2023. Tijan Njie and Elan Ben Ali play Pilatus and Morvan, respectively, and Matthias Schweighöfer plays Farian.
