Duffy is a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and actress from Wales. Duffy’s debut album “Rockferry” was released in 2008 and it reached chart number one and became the best-selling album in the UK that year.

Early Life

On the 23rd of June 1984, Duffy was born in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales, United Kingdom. It makes her age 39 and her full name is Aimée Anne Duffy. She is a citizen of Welsh and her horoscope is Cancer.

When she was 17 years old, she went to the Pwllheli campus of Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor to study for A-levels. Afterward, she enrolled at the University of Chester and studied Commercial Music Production on the Warrington campus. Moreover, she then studied Performing Arts at the Parkgate campus.

Professional Career

She started her singing career as a teenager and worked with several bands including Swiss writer, Soren Mounir to form Soulego after completing her GCSEs at 15. Moreover, she also appeared in a Welsh television talent show “Wawffactor” in the year 2003.

She was expected to win the show but she was a runner-up after Lisa Pedrick wins the show. Later, she recorded a three-song Welsh extended play, titled “Aimée Duffy” in the year 2004.

While she was still working part-time in two jobs as a waitress and a fishmonger, she released this EP. It earned Welsh chart success in 2008, charting at number one on the “Start C2” music chart.

On the 23rd of November 2007, she signed a contract with A&M Records (UK). Later, she released her debut album “Rockferry” which got released on the 3rd of March 2008.

The album reached the first rank on the UK Album Chart and also became the best-selling album in the UK with 7 million copies sold. Similarly, her work also got Platinum certification. It also earned the  Grammy Award in the category Best Pop Vocal Album at the 51st Grammy Awards and also earned several other awards as well.

On the 26th of November 2010, this singer released her second studio album named “Endlessly” by A&M Records. For the album, she formed a songwriting partnership with Albert Hammond. It was released in the United Kingdom on 29 November 2010 and placed at number 9 in the album charts on 5 December.

And, it also was able to reach number 72 on the US Billboard 200. She sent an unreleased song “Something Beautiful”, to Jo Whiley to play on her BBC Radio 2 show in the March of 2020. In June 2020, she debut a new song entitled “River in the Sky” on her Instagram account.

Acting

In 2010, she made her film debut playing the character of Sissy in the drama film “Patagonia,” directed by Marc Evans. She played the role of American singer Timi Yuro in the 2015 crime thriller film “Legend” and contributes three songs to its soundtrack including new original music; “Whole Lot of Love.”

On the 11th of September 2015, this song along with the new song “Dear Heart”, was released as a digital download and streaming single. She was a featured artist in an episode of the Live @ Home music series in the April of 2021.

Currently, She is dating her ex-beau, Mike Phillips. Her boyfriend is a Welsh international rugby star from September 2009 to May 2011. However, no useful information is available regarding their first meeting and when they started dating.

In the past, this singer dated her ex-boyfriend named Mark Durston for over five years. Due to some misunderstandings, the couple broke up in November 2006. Before separation, the couple used to live together in Abersoch.

Kidnapping

In her post on her Instagram on the 25th of February 2020, she wrote that she had been “raped and drugged and held hostage over some days” and that she had disappeared from the spotlight so she could recover, adding that she was now doing well but it had taken her time to recover. However, she has not mentioned the identity of her attacker.
