Tyler Alvarez made his film debut in the 2013 low-budget film “The House That Jack Built.” The film was an indie film that failed to get enough attention. He played a minor role in another indie film “Brothers in Arms” that same year.
He made his television debut in the 2014 fantasy sitcom “Every Witch Way” which was telecast from 2014 to 2015. The sitcom was inspired by ‘Grachi,’ the Latin–American version of the sitcom and Alvarez played the role of Diego Rueda in the sitcom.
However, the series was badly criticized for its cheap special effects and lack of chemistry between the characters. Apart from abysmal reviews, the sitcom ran for four seasons before being taken off the air. In addition, he reprised his role in the special episode “Every Witch Way: Spellbound,” which was presented as a TV film.
Again, he reprised the role of Diego in an episode of the 2015 series “Talia in the Kitchen.” He appeared in the highly acclaimed ‘Netflix’ series “Orange Is the New Black” playing the role of Benny Mendoza. He appeared in the 5 episodes, in the third, fourth, and fifth seasons of the series.

In the year 2017, he appeared in the romantic thriller television film “High School Lover” in which he played Larry, one of the major characters. That same year, he turned to documentary filmmaking and showcased another aspect of the all-rounder artist that he was to his fans with the ‘Netflix’ series “American Vandal.”
In the series, he played Peter Maldonado. And, the series was praised by critics for being a stylish and unique take on the genre. Later, the series was renewed for a second season, which is to premiere in 2018.
