He also became the first Flyers rookie goaltender to win his NHL debut since Antero Niittymaki in 2004. Later he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2012 season.

As a result of the 2012-13 NHL lockout, he signed a contract with SKA Saint Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League. After returning to the Columbus Blue Jackets, he played a phenomenal role in pushing for a playoff spot for the club.
For his amazing performance, he was also awarded the Vezina Trophy. It is awarded to the league’s top goaltender during the regular season. In 2013, he was also named NHL’s first All-Star team.
After having a good career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, he joined the Florida Panthers in 2019. He has been continuing to play for the team till today. He signed a seven-year contract worth $70 million US dollars.
Apart from that, he has also represented the national team of Russia in different international games. He participated and won gold in the 2014 World Championships in Belarus, silver in 2015, and bronze in 2016 in Russia. Sergei has not been endorsed by any brands till today.
