As an aerial photographer for the LA Times, Marika Gerrard began her career. During her 17-year career with the LA Times, which ended in 1997, she covered a wide range of issues, reported in live time, and delivered several speeches.
After that, she co-founded Los Angeles News Service with her ex-husband.

She is credited for finding seven lost airplanes. She served as the anchor of the Why They Run documentary series on MSNBC in 2007.
The show featured interviews with those involved in police chases and covered the reasons criminal suspects escaped justice. She had three appearances in Inside Edition segments on CNN, TMZ, and Dr. Drew On Call in 2015.
She had many appearances in the O.J.: Made In America miniseries in 2016. In episode 2 of the series, she recalls covering the 1992 Los Angeles riots and the police pursuit of O. J. Simpson on June 17, 1994. The documentary also includes archive videos.
