Ann Romney is an American author, equestrian, and philanthropist. Ann Romney published her book ‘In This Together’ which discussed her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, treatments, and the important role her family played.

Early Life

Ann Romney was born on April 16, 1949, in Bloomfield, Michigan, USA. She was a granddaughter of a Welsh miner. She was born under the star sign Aries. Likewise, she is 73 years old.  She was raised by her parents Edward Roderick Davies and Lois (Pottinger) Davies. She grew up with her two brothers. Her father was a self-made businessman and mayor of their town.

Education

She went to Kingswood School, a private all-girls school. Ann attended Brigham Young University after graduating from high school in 1967. She was at the University of Grenoble in France during the second semester of her freshman year.

In 1977, Ann ran for the position of town meeting representative in Belmont. She managed to win the election by studying local issues and engaging in door-to-door campaigning. Moreover, Anne had a keen interest in equestrianism after her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. So, her interest soon ended up in her receiving recognition in dressage as an adult amateur at the national level. Moreover, she earned the 2006 Gold Medal and 2005 Silver Medal at the Grand Pix level from the United States Dressage Federation.

Ann worked with Jan Ebeling a California trainer. As a result, they ended up being qualified for the Pan-Am games in 2004. By 2011, her horses were valued at more than $250,000. The horses were kept at Ebeling’s Moorpark, California, stables in which she is a partner. The Romneys funded Ebeling’s wish for equestrian competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In June 2012, Ebeling, riding on the horse Rafalca was spot on the US dressage team. Ebeling and Roney co-owned Rafalca. Hence, they stood in 28th position in the competition at the London Games in August 2012.

Charity Work:

Ann also involved herself in several children’s charities. She actively involved herself in the prevention of teen pregnancy. Moreover, she worked to promote safety and opportunities for urban youths. She worked with Ten Point Coalition in Boston and other groups as well. Ann also served as an honorary board member of Families First. It is a parent education program based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She also worked as a volunteer instructor of middle-school girls at Mother Caroline Academy in Boston.

Ann started volunteering for the United Way of Massachusetts Bay. By 2002, she was serving as one of the board members of the organization. Romney served on the United Way’s Faith in Action Committee, collaborating with local religious institutions. It supported at-risk children and helped to develop United Way Faith and Action. She had previously served on the Massachusetts Advisory Board of Stand for Children in 1996. She co-chaired the Olympic Aid charity at the 2002 Winter Olympics. It provides sports activities and programs for children in war-torn areas.

In January 2003, Romney became the First Lady of Massachusetts until January 2007. During this course, she was active in teenage pregnancy prevention efforts. She supported stem cell research in 2004 as long as it was done “morally and ethically”. In 2005, the governor selected Ann to lead a new special office. She worked with the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. It helped the state’s faith-based organizations to obtain greater federal funding.

Book Writing:

The Romney Family Table: Sharing Home-Cooked Recipes & Favorite Traditions, a cookbook that made the New York Times Best Seller list. It was published in October 2013. She made promotional appearances for it. She published her book Whatever You Choose to Be: 8 Tips for the Road Ahead in March 2015. Ann also published In This Together: My Story in September 2015. The book discussed her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, treatments, and the important role her family played.
