In 1990-1991, Vitaly made his international debut when he competed for the USSR team at the World Championship and the World Cup. At the 1991 World All-Around, Vitaly won a silver medal with his teammate Grigori Misutin. Additionally, Vitaly also scored a perfect ten on the vault at the 1990 European Championships.
