Before realizing his dream in the field of music, Young Thug had developed the habit of gambling just like his brothers. He loved the thrill of taking risks and soon enough, he was into drug addiction and violence. By the age of 17 years, he was already a father.
Professionally, he is a rapper and singer-songwriter. He was able to impress Rapper Gucci Mane with his first mixtape I Came from Nothing. Gucci Mane found his work unique and identifiable. Hence, Gucci quickly signed him onto his label.
Then in the year 2013, he released another mixtape 1017 Thug under Gucci’s banner. Following this mixtape, he was listed on Pitchfork: Albums of the Year. The rapper also received a good review from Complex.

Moreover, his song Pichacho was voted the best track in his mixtape. This single made its way into Rolling Stone and Spin’s list of best songs in the year 2013. Even The Guardian mentioned that his mixtape was among the five best of the year 2013.
Later the same year, he released his first single Stoner. The rapper then followed it with another single Danny Glover. Both these songs were a hit. Many well-known rappers and DJs also remixed these two songs in the subsequent days. However, he disapproved of the remixes of his songs.
As he gained more prominence in the music industry, he began to collaborate with several established artists like Alex Tumay, Danny Brown, Trick Daddy, and Travis Scott among others.

All of his mixtapes are a hit. However, among them, Barter 6 was ranked number 22 on U.S. Billboard 200. The young rapper’s most famous single Picacho was not meant to be single. Nevertheless, this singles its way to the top 100 tracks in both Rolling Stone and Pitchfork. Similarly, Spin also included this single in its top 50 songs.
Further, the rapper’s song Stoner went viral again in the year 2014. This was after Wale created an unauthorized remix. The remix grabbed a lot of attention and his original track began doing the rounds once again on music charts.
In the year 2013, Complex included the young rapper in the list of “25 New Rappers to Watch Out For”. Then the next year, the young rapper received nominations for the BET hip-hop awards. These nominations were for the category of Who Blew Up, Best Hip-Hop Style, and Best Club Banger- for Stoner.
Furthermore, he also received nominations at the BET Awards in the “Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award”. This time, the nomination was for his song Throw Sum Mo. Had he bagged this award, he would have shared his achievement with his fellow rappers Nicki Minaj and Rae Sremmurd.
